Excerpt from Tandem eNews 2 May 2023

Dear members and supporters,

Welcome to this edition of eNews, and a big thank you to all who attended our recent members meeting.  Some of the Tandem team took a road trip to Traralgon to hold our April members meeting at Gippsland Conference Centre – it was great to see so many of our members in the room as well as online.

With us were our friends from Satellite and Wellways to speak briefly on their involvement with the Family and Carer-led Centres. ACSO came by in the afternoon to give us a presentation on the wonderful work they are doing, as well as formally accept the Tandem Service Community Award they received in 2019.

We also launched the opening of the Tandem Awards nominations for 2023! The nomination form is now live on our website, and you can submit a nomination in a variety of ways including audio or video recording. Do you know a person or service you would like to nominate for a Tandem Award? Head to our website, login to your account and start nominating.

A special thanks to Melina Bath MP the member for Eastern Victoria (pictured below with our Director of Policy and Advocacy, Melinda Lucas) who came and listened to the work Tandem does, including the work of family, carers and supporters in Victoria. It was a wonderful opportunity for our members to meet some new faces and network with other organisations in the area.

Update on Tour of Royal Botanic Gardens

DETAILS FOR TOUR OF ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS VICTORIA AND LUNCH AT JARDIN TAN

To accommodate a range of needs and the weather, details have changed.

Please read carefully. We have a large group and we all need to co-operate to enjoy the day

11am Meet at Visitors Centre, 100 Birdwood Avenue to walk and enjoy the gardens. Our walk WILL begin at 11am sharp.

12.20pm Individuals unable to walk, or who are tired from walking (having started at 11am) are welcome to join a pre-booked ‘Explorer’ covered minibus for a 30 minute tour of the gardens.

 The Explorer seats 12 https://www.rbg.vic.gov.au/melbourne-gardens/what-s-on-melbourne/gardens-explorer/

We have over 20 who have booked for the Walk and Lunch. If you want to ensure your seat on The Explorer, you must book in advance by depositing the booking fee into ISFAF account. This is the only way you are assured of a seat. Many of us are happy to keep walking till lunch, but The Explorer is available for individuals who wish to have a rest before lunch or are concerned if the weather is questionable. By contrast, diehard ISFAF members not travelling on The Explorer will ‘Be Prepared’ for all weather conditions… jackets/umbrellas/sunscreen etc

1pm Lunch at Jardin Tan

HOW TO FIND OUR MEETING PLACE
The Visitors Centre and Jardin Tan are both at 100 Birdwood Ave, about 100m from ‘The Observatory Gate’. The ‘Observatory Gate’ is ‘behind’ The Shrine of Remembrance.

Long term parking spots are very scarce, there are virtually none nearby. St Kilda Road is a very expensive place to park even at the best of times and there are restrictions limiting time. I strongly suggest you come via public transport.
