Eldon Park Carer Respite Weekend 19 and 20 April 2013

A group of 18 carers, 9 from Inner South Family and Friends and 8 from the Cheltenham Carers Group spent a very pleasant, relaxing weekend at Eldon Park at Tyabb.  Eldon Park, a farm and horse stud is run by Elizabeth Byrne and her family and has ample accommodation for groups such as ours.  The ‘farm provides opportunities for “doing nothing” in a beautiful setting, gentle exercise or more vigorous activities. The cottage also has a gym, which can be used for relaxation, exercise, discussions or fun activities either informally by carers themselves or organized by Elizabeth.’

We indulged in the ample food provided by the efforts of Elizabeth, Penny and others.  Elizabeth organised exercise classes and some of us played tennis and croquetWe spent some time sightseeing and visited The Briars (and learned about the connection to Napoleon Bonaparte), Coolart and the McLelland Gallery and Sculpture Park in Langwarrin.

Meeting other carers and sharing experiences between the two groups helped make the weekend a great success and we departed Eldon Park feeling happy and relaxed.
