Disability pensioner living in ‘scandalous’ conditions while NDIS funding goes unspent
ABC Online News reported on the case of a Bendigo man who has received an NDIS package but lacks the support of case management and other services currently unavailable in his regional area. Warwick, who is living with mental health issues and is on the autism spectrum, has received NDIS funding of $188,000 but is not receiving adequate support because of the NDIS market and provision of services (especially in regional areas) is still in its infancy.
‘For many people having direct access to their funds via NDIS, allowing them to choose their own providers, is a preferable option but for those with more complex needs and challenging behaviours it has proved problematic.’
National Disability Services (NDS) Victorian State Manager David Moody says, ‘in some parts of Australia merely because you have significant funding for significant supports doesn’t mean that in all instances you will get it.’ Read the full article here.
